Cenk on Democracy Now! MSNBC ‘Act Like An Insider’

bulging killers joining us in south from
los angeles to speak for himself in addition to his recent primetime talk
show on msnbc and changing their blogs at several of our website so it was a
popular internet radio show called the young turks tranquil continue my
personality happened well it’s exactly as i explain a lien
turks uh… you know uh… by was going on to the
program you know they did have early on some stylistic comments on china listen to them you know in
terms of body language the only their arms act like a senator i don’t know why you want to talk shows
that when senator byrd at the finest immediately or working in a far more
bill internet and you know it’s different in warning on television and youth you know i think those points is no
problem at all but it they brought when they called me and phil griffin
gave me this big speech about how uh… where the establishment in and be
cool to be like outsiders but we’re not where insiders and we have to act like it and i remember thing at the time there’s
no way i’m gonna do that truck bomb in a given what i got and then if they like it they like it if
they don’t they don’t and honestly i don’t know which way they were dealt
with it because i know how much they care about ratings so i figured if i delivered good ratings
for that’ll probably do the job well he didn’t ’cause i delivered really good ratings of beating c_n_n_
signifi handily and also uh… do improving upon the
numbers from last year so there’s no question about the ratings and then they told me
and said i well you know we’re going to go to different erection at six o’clock
anyway and when i ask you about it they didn’t really have a good answers
to why leading me to believe that that giant conversation we had three months
ago might’ve been part of the recent in december of last year phil donahue
joined eliot spitzer and kathleen parker and her shirt to discuss his ouster from
msnbc during the run-up to the invasion of iraq donohue was the lone journalist
arrington publicly oppose the work that they alwar at south onset by post war any papers that one of the
reasons that michelle or agreed that memo that was by the new york times is
anywhere void is not going to work against the flag
waving on the other stations donahue and and the antiwar boris
yeltsin thousand to but there are other all doing what i think that now final
channel is enough would not criticize this war four months
before the invasion it was not good for business yet general electric had no
interesting featuring ronald talk show hosts who is against the president’s war
hit list it was unpopular q one american this is what you get the corporate
nearly missus it’s going to happen again thank you very very dangerous the
situation compared to that of phil donahue’s do you think al sharpton were
taken very different political line then you would so there’s a couple of different things
here first of all uh… it’s not just phil donahue uh… i’d just ventura on the young turks
uh… a little while ago maybe over a year ago and what the law remembers that
he also had a big contract from msnbc at the time to do a show and ed they told
them you-know-what it’s okay take the money you don’t even have to do
the show why he said they found out that that he
was against iraq war and said that’s ok we don’t want john engler and that actually banfield when she gave
a great speech in kansas about how the war didn’t make any sense she went
from their star reporter to literally being moved into a closet anyone in the letter out of our contract soci one other network in had talked to
his unbelievable now the decision areas donahue mentor band fillmore all under
different management at msnbc so you have to be clear on that you can
put that on them but the similarity is that it is corporate media right and
whether it’s the pressure to go right to pressure to go left pressure to if he’s
the bush administration oppression at if he’s all bombing administration did
exist and it’s not just msnbc you think that this c_n_n_ host can aggressively
challenged government officials i don’t think so it doesn’t look that
way at all and of course many of the box is there a
whole different animal there’s purely propaganda so it looked as if it
is not an issue of just msnbc management now no but jack also there are several a
liberal whole salon msnbc but they also managed to be basically very supportive
of the obama administration or perhaps one of the most critical holes in terms
of raising questions about your mom administration’s policies well there’s no question that i was by
far the only supportive of old bombing ministration i saw you last segment and
i couldn’t agree more with your guest i think president bombers clearly you know republican now i know because
in the nineteen nineties i was a republican and here’s why do the right of me and
i’ve hardly changed any positions the political spectrum has shifted
massively to the right in this country and nobody wants to talk about it and all bomb a that you know supporters
i don’t know what they want the host to do so we fought so hard to make sure that within cut social security so are we supposed to cheer when all
bamaca social security uh… we fought so hard to make sure
that bush and yet more tax cuts the rats are we suppose that chair one oh bombing
is more tax cuts the ridge analyst goes on and not now uh… it’s very important for me to make
this distinction cuz i really believe it the host or totally different than the management and it is an interesting way that you it
choir power within these corporate organizations right i think we show that i was done a
brilliant job in becoming more and more independent and ivy she does though at fantastic
progress and show and she did it by accruing power by
getting better and better ratings and e so my dve is not with anybody on a rat
uh… msnbc at all i think it should also strong show uh… and you know what you think we
have trace evidence i wanna have all you the ag msnbc said they were offering you
a better position to respond to that well better isn’t allot more money uh…
but it was for weekend hosting and offer a contributor or well we’re gonna have to leave it there
is no are go ahead five seconds so it’s not like there was a disgruntled
employee or not just didn’t want to do the kind of programming they wanted me
to do gently around thank you for being with us to the young turk this is
democracy now i mean you can’t find financing costs

Good for you Cenk! We need open media sources able to put forth all view points, not just one parties. Until Cenk said it, I never really thought about the ramifications of corporations owning media outlets. Of course NBS Nightly News won't broadcast stories about how GE paid no taxes – GE owns them…and our congress, our president….

I think a lot of host would have accepted that cookie cuter roll and traded their integrity for a leash around the neck, do as we tell you, high paid corporate contract.

MSNBC was smart to use Cenk to increase their ratings and try to shape him into a corporate media machine, but I am happy to see that Cenk is wiser and did not accept a contract that would have betrayed everything that TYT stands for.

The Monopoly on media outlets produces a culture that doesn't have the public's interest at heart. It becomes a tool to: sell corrupt policies, agendas and politicians to the public; to use the politicians with held favors to expand geographically and financially and grab more power and influence. Murdoch is but tip of that huge iceberg spreading from Fox on the right to MSNBC on the left and every corporate media in between.

We don't have a truly progressive MAINSTREAM media outlet to combat Fox News, which is ostensibly an instrument for right wing politics. While MSNBC plays the role of progressivism, it will only express progressive views to the extent that what it says doesn't hurt its corporate and political backers. MSNBC must be more than a shield for Democrats; it must call Democrats to account for not behaving as progressives should. Thankfully we have The Young Turks to keep things real.

@TheMidwestAtheist Ventura is defintely crazy, no question. The Glenn Beck comparison isn't far off. But if he was fired for being anti-Iraq War then MSNBC was in the wrong, even if they're ultimately better off w/o him.

  66. ex yzee
    ex yzee July 28, 2011

Phil Donahue got screwed by MSNBC, and Cenk would have been had he not also run a tremendously successful show on YouTube. As for Ventura, you may not like his politics, but as governor of Minnesota he was a level headed, responsible executive, unlike his successor Tim Pawlenty, who turned into a rubber stamp for the Right Wing – and left Minnesota with a state debt of billions of dollars.

@NaziGOPBallmer You say corporations as if its a bad thing, shit-kicker. Whereas infact America was built bit by bit by the toils of corporations. Infact, the health of US corporations and the country are intimately linked to eachother, cling to eachother for survival. Big corporations are nurseries for innovation and prosperity. Untalented cowards like you don't have the courage to achieve the American dream,so you criticize the system. GOP's will reigns supreme, commie boy. This is 'MERICAAA

  74. NaziGOPBallmer

No fuckstick, the MIDDLE-CLASS built the country. Some of the big corporations started out as small businesses and entrepreneurs, but corporate robots such as yourself can't grasp that concept. Untalented ignorant and certainly uneducated dumbshit like you don't even know what true American dreams are so you're not in a position to talk about that. The GOP is becoming a totalitarian regime, Nazi boy. America belongs to the people NOT RIGHT-WING CORPORATIONS!

  75. MetrazolElectricity
    MetrazolElectricity July 30, 2011

@NaziGOPBallmer Jefferson, Hamilton ,Washington …these weren't middle-class, they were estate-owning aristocrats. The founders were a clique of select few white male elites, and they owned USA. The middle-class came about as a result of their enterprise. The concept of middle-class wasn't even relevant until the industrial revolution when suddenly ppl without royal titles had leisure time away from the factory.Your history is as confused as your slurs against me, shit-kicker.

  76. NaziGOPBallmer
    NaziGOPBallmer July 30, 2011

They were aristocrats yes, but NOT corporate entities. The well-know corporate entity at that time was the British East Indian Trading Company. Don't try to compare corporations today with the founding fathers cause they're NOTHING like them at all, nor will they ever be. You're just as bad as those right-wing conservative hack jobs who try to claim that Jesus Christ and the founding fathers were Conservatives themselves.

  77. MetrazolElectricity
    MetrazolElectricity July 30, 2011

@NaziGOPBallmer The aristocrats of then were modern day equivalents of CEOs. Both entities had lotsa political pull and personal wealth. Corporations as we know today did not exist back then, the East India Company was a tool of the British Crown, it did not have the autonomous might and independence of modernday american companies, you silly shitkicker. The founders were fairly conservative, they were right-wing and owned lotsa slaves. None was a bleeding socialist and almost all were devout X

  78. NaziGOPBallmer
    NaziGOPBallmer July 30, 2011

Whether the British crown owned the EIC or Corporate America owns the government, they shared the same desire to create a plutocracy where the rich gets richer and the poor gets poorer. This is exactly what the founders were avoiding! If they had been Conservatives America wouldn't have existed. The idea of founding a secular nation that gives freedom to any class and allows everyone to practice any religion is a LIBERAL IDEA you dumb fuckstick!
